Neil Adam, Judy Turner and Bruce Packard are joined by young hotshots on the Melbourne music scene Pria Schwall-Kearney (fiddle, foot percussion), Bec Rigby (vocals) Dale Packard (sax percussion guitar vocals) and Gus Rigby (sax, flute, bodhran). It's an all singing, all dancing, all sax and fiddle playing extravaganza, and it's pretty much “all in the family” with husband and wife team Neil and Judy at the core. Their warm and intimate sound is augmented by Judy’s son (Gus), her star pupil (!) (Pria) and one of her buddies from way back in primary school (Bruce). Judy's daughter Rebecca (17) joined the band on lead vocals, stunning audiences with her beautiful and distinctive voice. Bruce's son Dale (23) has also become a regular member on drums, tenor sax and vocals. The duo, Neil Adam and Judy Turner, are established performers at folk festivals all over Australia, in New Zealand and the UK, with three CDs out, and a fourth released with this combo. Songs such as “The Pickers Train” “Old Grey Fergie” “Underground Mutton and Quandong Jam” “Keys To the Field” and "Al Grassby's Grandfather" have all received substantial airplay in Australia, thanks mainly to the ABC. Audiences at Fairbridge Festival in Western Australia in 2006 were wowed by Rebecca's voice (never have we had so much fan mail!) and by Dale and Gus playing those funky two sax lines through the Celtic tunes. A key involvement is with The Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club, which Judy founded in 1996 and which has grown to be a fixture on the scene in Melbourne, providing a channel for young people and adults interested in getting started with celtic fiddling. The club’s three CDs have proved hugely popular, and the group is in demand to teach and play at festivals all over the place. Top billing and major concerts at The 2006 Port Fairy Festival, Australia's biggest music festival, confirmed the Club's place in the hearts of Australian folk audiences. The new Fiddle Club CD A Long Way From Home, has featured as CD of the day on the ABC's Daily Planet. |
