Lightsabers

Building a Lightsaber

A force user must make a perception check in order to locate a crystal and separately make a force check to attune it to the force user and/or imbue the crystal with the force. You must then RP with a force moderator in order to gain the knowledge on how to build a lightsaber. Then a role-playing thread is required with the construction of every lightsaber.

Lightsaber

Prerequisites: 1500 credits, 1 crystal

Among the Old Republic's many legends, none endure more than the stories of the Jedi Knights and their incredible lightsabers.

A lightsabers handgrip is approximately twenty-four to thirty centimeters long and features a mirrorlike concave metal disk called a blade emitter on one end. Controls include an activation lever, a recharge socket, diagnostic readouts and in some cases blade length and intensity controls. Opening the small access panel reveals a tiny but very sophisticated power cell as well as at least one (and sometimes several) multifaceted crystals or jewels.

The lightsaber's jewels focus the power cell's enemy charge into a tight parallel beam that emerges from the blade emitter as a vibrant blade of pure energy. The blade is a closed energy loop. Its amplitude determines when the energy beam arcs back to the negatively charged high-energy flux aperture that rings the outer edge of the lightsaber's concave disk. The power cell can last to years because it is fed by the energy that enters the flux aperture; the weapon loses energy only when the blade makes contact with another object.

The lightsaber's deadly energy blade can cut through almost any substance. Because the blade itself has no weight and emits no heat, a novice may easily miscalculate its path. A Jedi Knight undertakes years of study to master the weapon, developing the skill that allows him or her to block incoming blaster bolts or fend off as many as a dozen attackers.

Most lightsabers have customised features such as pressure-sensitive activation levers (so that the blade disappears as soon as the saber is released) and multiple crystals that enable the user to alter the amplitude and length of the blade. The lightsabers handgrip is as much a work of art as a practical weapon, often featuring a design native to the Jedi's homeworld or built by the student in a style reminiscent of his master's lightsaber.

The Jedi drew their lightsabers only as a last resort (when negotiation failed to resolve a dispute peacefully) but their skills were unquestioned once these magnificent energy blades flashed.

One-Handed

Damage: 15-45

-20% to hit if not Jedi/Sith/Shadow

Double-Bladed Lightsaber

Prerequisites: 5000 credits, 2 crystals (effects are not doubled the most effective crystal's effects stand).

Some unique objects are invariably associated with their remarkable owners. The unusual double- bladed lightsaber of the fallen Jedi Exar Kun is one such artefact. This weapon was distinctive a dangerous as its builder, the Dark Lord of the Sith, who initiated the great Sith War and nearly toppled the Old Republic.

Once a young and ambitious Jedi studying under Master Vodo-Siosk Baas, Exar Kun was lured to the dark side of the Force. After turning away from the teachings of his master, Kun gathered armies of followers and initiated a campaign to exterminate the Jedi Knights, with the ultimate intention of conquering the Republic.

As the battle against the Jedi escalated, Kun altered his normal lightsaber into a more deadly and dangerous weapon. Kun added a second emitter matrix on the opposite end of the handgrip. The dark Jedi wielded the saber much as he would a quarterstaff, using one blade to block incoming attacks, then quickly spinning the handgrip to use the second blade to strike a killing blow against his opponent.

However, Kun's reach was too great and his thirst for power too unquenchable for even him to control. One of his former disciples, the fallen Jedi Ulic Qel-Droma, turned on the Dark Lord of the Sith leading the Republic to Kun's main fortress on Yavin Four. The jungle moon was devastated in the battle, and Exar Kun's twin-bladed lightsaber and numerous other artifacts were destroyed. Kun was thought dead, although his spirit later manifested itself after Luke Skywalker established his Jedi academy, or Praxeum, in the Massassi ruins of the moon's surface.

There are stories that another dark Jedi carried a double bladed lightsaber. He went by the name of Darth Maul, but little is known of this dark Jedi and his lightsaber was never recovered.

Two-Handed

Damage: 20-55

-30% to hit if not Jedi/Sith/Shadow

Ordinary Crystal

Cost: 500 credits
Perception check: Moderate (125)
Force strength check: Moderate (125)

A lightsaber made with any force imbued crystal can be any color.
Ilum Crystal
Cost
: 1500 credits
Perception Check: Very Difficult (250)
Force Strength Check: Difficult (200)
When used in the construction of a Lightsaber an Ilum crystal gives +5% to hit and +5 max damage to the lightsaber as a result of the crystal's special connection to the force and tuning to the person who constructed the lightsaber.

Lightsabers made with Ilum crystals can be either blue or green.
Adega Crystal
Cost: 1000 credits
Perception Check: Difficult (200)
Force Strength Check: Difficult (200)
When used in the construction of a Lightsaber an Adega crystal gives +5% to hit to the lightsaber as a result of the crystal's connection to the force and tuning to the person who constructed the lightsaber.

Lightsabers made with Adega crystals can be either blue or green.
Ruusan Crystal

Cost: 2000 credits
Perception Check: Heroic (325)
Force Strength Check: Very Difficult (275)

When used in construction of a Lightsaber a Ruusan crystal gives +10% to hit and +10 max damage to the lightsaber as a result of the crystal's special connection to the force and tuning to the person who constructed the lightsaber.

Lightsabers made with Ruusan crystals can be any color.

Solari Crystal
Cost: 2000 credits
Perception Check: Heroic (325)
Force Strength Check: Very Difficult (275)
When used in construction of a lightsaber it acts like a regular crystal.  The crystal’s true power shows itself when going up against users in the Dark Side.  It seems to glow more brilliantly when in the presence of these vile Dark Side force users.  They gain +10% to hit and +20 max damage against Dark Jedi and Sith.

Lightsabers made with Solari crystals can be any color.

Jenruax Crystal
Cost: 2000 credits
Perception Check: Difficult (200)
Force Strength Check: Very Difficult (275)
When used in construction of a lightsaber it acts like a regular crystal but with a wider beam that seems to attract energy and dampens it.  This provides the lightsaber wielder with +20% to blaster deflection only. This crystal coupled with a Form III user would be able to deflect most of all blaster bolts.

Lightsabers made with Jenruax crystals can be any color.

Firkrann Crystal
Cost: 2000 credits
Perception Check: Heroic (325)
Force Strength Check: Very Difficult (275)
When used in construction of a lightsaber it acts like a regular crystal.  The crystal’s true power shows itself when going up against droids.  It seems to glow more brilliantly when in the presence of these mechanical constructs.  They gain +10% to hit and +20 max damage against droids.

Lightsabers made with Firkrann crystals can be any color.

Synthetic Red Crystal

Cost: 1500 credits
Perception Check: Difficult (200)
Force Strength Check: Moderate (175)

When used in construction of Lightsaber gives +10 max damage to the lightsaber due to the crystal's focusing properties and its darkside imbuement.

Lightsabers made with Synthetic Red Crystals are red.

Synthetic Purple Crystal

Cost: 1500 credits
Perception check: Difficult (200)
Force strength check: Difficult (275)

When used in construction of a Lightsaber gives +5% to hit and +10 to max damage.

Lightsabers made with Synthetic Purple Crystals are purple.
